Amsterdam
At first glance, the city seems
to confirm all the images by which we know it. Amsterdam really
is a mesh of elegant canals, quaint bridges and old coffee
houses. Trams and bicycles continually whizz through the
streets. Tulip fields and windmills are only a stone's
throwaway, and although Amsterdammers have given up clogs for
Nikes these days, you'll find the people remain as welcoming as
if their city were the friendly village it sometimes resembles.
But the picture is more
complex.
